Project, Programme and Portfolio Office (P3O) is the latest guidance from OGC. It will be published in the fourth quarter 2008 and accompanied by a qualification scheme.
This new guidance - aligned to OGC's PRINCE2, MSP, and MoR - will bring together in one place a set of principles, processes and techniques to facilitate effective portfolio, programme and project management through enablement, challenge and support structures.
A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK Guide)
The PMBOK Guide is an internationally recognised standard that provides the fundamentals of project management as they apply to a wide range of projects, including construction, software, engineering, automotive, etc. It recognises 44 processes that fall into five basic process groups and nine knowledge areas that are typical of almost all projects.
The PMBOK Guide was first published by Project Management Institute (PMI) as a white paper in 1987 for standardising generally accepted project management information and practice.
The first edition was published in 1996 followed by the second edition in 2000. The third edition was published in 2004 including major changes from the first edition. The fourth edition is expected to be published in late 2008, with an aim to be coherent with other standards especially Program, Portfolio, Organisational Project Management Maturity Model (OPM3).

The model has been developed by volunteers and is owned by the Project Management Institute (PMI). It provides requirements for assessing and developing or improving capabilities in project, program, and portfolio management.
The model has three key elements: Knowledge, Assessment and Improvement, with 586 best practices, 3 domains (Project, Program, and Portfolio), and into 4 stages of process management (Standardisation, Measurement, Control, and Continuous Improvement).
