09:15 a.m. KEYNOTE
Positive Impact of Good Governance – a director’s perspective, with specific reference to some of the particular factors regarding ICT
Speaker: Marcel van den Assum – who is well known to many as a former CIO of Fonterra, IT visionary and professional director. Marcel has some strong opinions and interesting perspectives on this important topic.
Earlier in his career he was with a major vendor and was involved in a number of significant and ground breaking engagements. He is well known for his strategic focus.
10:00 a.m. KEY ISSUES IN SUCCESS/FAILURE
Key issues associated with the success or failure of programmes/projects. In this session we will pay particular attention to the impact of governance as a means of enhancing prospects of success. Stages of the Project Lifecycle which are materially impacted in this regard are Initiation and Planning.
Speaker: Peter Salmon - the principal of Manning Charles & Associates Ltd. A senior executive with strong operational management experience, Peter’s past experience includes leading the Systems Integration practice for a major vendor in the South Pacific as well heading the Project Quality Office for the same company in the region.

11:05 a.m. THE IMPACT OF ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE ON GOVERNANCE AND THEREFORE ON PROJECT SUCCESS
This session will consider briefly some aspects of this critical issue and how it impacts Project Success. An interactive group session will follow. This will assist participants by open discussion of issues they may have faced in their work. Chatham House Rules will apply.
Facilitator: Murray Stevens - has extensive knowledge and understanding of outcomes planning and development and implementation within organisations. He helps organisations to understand their culture how they might determine targeted interventions to improve performance. His career spans hands-on operational delivery, managing for service delivery, through organisation and sector strategy; past roles include frontline delivery and supervision, through middle management to general management.

01:00 p.m. PMOs –ARE THEY A FORCE FOR GOOD?
Many organizations have established PMOs. Yet concerns exist that they are not as effective as they might be. In fact some people regard them as a process sop and a nod in the direction of compliance. This session aims to dispel this impression. Although the PMO has an impact on all phases of the Project Lifecycle the speaker will pay particular regard to to a minimalist approach and using PMO’s as a vehicle for delivering real organisational value

How we can measure success? The session looks at how this might be achieved with respect to both the Initiation and Closure Stages of the Project Lifecycle and the requirements of ISO 38500.

This interactive session will highlight some of the issues and problems which exist in situations where despite the presence of theoretically sound processes and controls, constituting a governance framework, these are not effective. It is intended to act as a consolidation of the earlier sessions within the context of a well reported case.
Facilitator: Alisdair McKenzie - an Information Systems Professional with extensive experience in public and private sector organisations in IS Systems Development and Maintenance and more recently in IS Audit and Assurance roles. He is a Past President of the Wellington Chapter of ISACA and a Past Chair of the NZCS IS Security Special Interest Group.
