A short newsletter to update you on news, recent events and coming deadlines

New Website Finally we have a new website up and running. The site uses content management technology, presenting itself somewhat differently than web sites based upon static html pages. The site is geared more towards interactive group communications than marketing and is intended to become a key channel of communications 'between' members rather than just 'to' members. Its early days and suggestions for improvement would be most welcome.

Success of this site depends largely on member's contributions, so you are very much encouraged to take part in forums discussions in particular, create new discussion threads, and provide material that could become useful resources to other members.

The site is still under development and will improve over the next few months. You're encouraged to subscribe to the RSS feed, particularly to be informed about new events.

Anybody who wishes to become a regular contributor or moderator of this site should contact me (ron@weaudit.com).

Education Event. The end of Novermber sees another chapter education event, this time on security metrics. The value of IT is becoming an increasingly important governance issue, so security and risk professionals can expect to be under increasing pressure to provide objective evidence of the value that they are adding. Its a difficult subject for which our education days is intended to provide a practical insight.

CACS Attendance at the Auckland CACS was very much down in numbers and we have struggled to break even. Ironically though there were comments from a number of delegates that this was the best CACS that they have ever attended. An interesting situation that we need to try to understand. Comments on this would be appreciated.

CISA and CISM December exams for our Assurance and Security qualifications are looming. Study groups are well under way.

CGEIT Stands for 'certified in the governance of enterprise IT' the new ISACA IT governance certification. The first exam is due in December 2008, with a 'grandfathering' opportunity to gain the certficate open until 31 October 2008. For this latter 8 years of relevant experience are needed. See isaca.org, certification, CGEIT, for further information.

Committee Opportunities Early next year we will be looking to fill some committee positions. So if you would like to help the local chapter to provide value to our membership please do contact me to discuss.
