2. Import PDF file into ACL
The latest version of ACL (V9.1) released in Jan 2008 is able to import PDF file; however, based on my experience, only fixed length PDF file is able to import to ACL properly. Most of time, PDF files cannot be imported properly (i.e., in alignment).
ACL support suggested that we imported one page at a time and appended it to a file.
From some of ACL user forums, I noted that a programme called Cogniview PDF2XL can help resolve this type of problem. It is 97$ and the address is http://www.cogniview.com/pdf2xl-data-converter.php.
3. Overflow errors
Recently I experienced overflow errors (i.e., with a display of “###ERR###” in a calculation field) using ACL. Overflow occurs when your calculations involve very large numbers, or numbers with many decimal places, such as financial calculations, percentages, and present values. Overflow also occurs when you use an invalid parameter or when you divide by zero in a calculation.
The fundamental reason for the error is that ACL only allows 22 digits in a numeric field. Calculations results that exceed 22 digits, including decimal places, will create overflow errors if the Stop on Numeric Overflow option is turned on.
ACL provides options to tackle this problem:
(a) turn off the Stop on Numeric Overflow option. ACL then continues to process commands, but it also truncates excess digits, starting from the left, which makes the result inaccurate; or
(b) leave the Stop on Numeric Overflow option turned on and to exercise caution with values that contain large numbers or numbers with many decimal places; and/or
(c) create conditional fields to avoid division by zero.
